Itinerary
Upon arrival at Windhoek International Airport (recommended before 13h00), you will pick up your self-drive vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner or similar. From there, you’ll embark on the scenic drive to your accommodation in the heart of the Namib Desert. Sossusvlei greets you with its legendary red dunes, some towering over 300 meters. After checking in and freshening up, you will enjoy a delicious dinner at the lodge before settling in for your first overnight stay in this remote and stunning location.
After breakfast at the lodge, you will proceed for a full Sossusvlei Excursion. An early start allows you to enter Namib-Naukluft Park at sunrise, when the temperatures are mild and the dune contrasts are at their best. Traveling in a custom-built all-terrain URI Game viewer with a specially trained guide, you will make stops along the spectacular 60-kilometre dune corridor, including at the world-famous Dune 45. For the energetic, a guided 2.6-kilometre round-trip walk to Dead Vlei and the optional climb up Big Daddy Dune offers unforgettable panoramic views. Following the tour, you will return to the lodge for dinner and another overnight stay in Sossusvlei.
Following breakfast and check-out, you will drive from the desert to the coast, heading to your hotel in the charming town of Swakopmund. Known for its well-preserved German colonial architecture and vibrant promenade, Swakopmund sits between the desert and the Atlantic Ocean. Upon arrival, you will check in and have the rest of the day to relax and explore this unique beach resort at your own pace. The evening is yours to enjoy, with an overnight stay in Swakopmund.
Your day begins with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a delightful Seal & Dolphin Cruise in the coastal waters. Later, you will embark on a thrilling Sandwich Harbour 4x4 Scenic Excursion. This drive takes you along the beach to the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon, one of Southern Africa’s richest wetlands and a designated RAMSAR site. Wedged dramatically between the sea and the Namib Dunes, this area supports eight endangered species and numerous wading birds, offering a truly unique landscape. After the excursion, you will transfer back to your hotel for a final overnight stay in Swakopmund.
After breakfast at the camp (lodge/hotel), you will check out and begin your return drive to Windhoek Airport. Upon arrival, you will complete the vehicle drop-off formalities. After handing back your keys, you will board your international flight home, marking the end of your Namibian self-drive tour.
