Itinerary
Your Bhutanese adventure begins as you touch down at the scenic Paro Airport. After clearing immigration and collecting your baggage, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to the capital city, Thimphu. En route, you'll pause at Chuzom, the sacred confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers, where three distinct styles of stupas—Tibetan, Nepalese, and Bhutanese—grace the meeting point. Upon arriving in the captivating capital, a fascinating mix of tradition and modernity, you'll check into your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to stretch your legs with a leisurely exploratory walk along Thimphu's vibrant main street and bustling market area, offering a first taste of local life.
After breakfast, delve into Thimphu's cultural and spiritual heart. Your first stop is the majestic Kuensel Phodrang, home to the largest Buddha statue in the country, which houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues and offers a magnificent overview of the valley. Continue to the serene National Memorial Chorten, a monument built in memory of the Third King, followed by a visit to the Folk Heritage Museum to glimpse Bhutan's traditional rural life. The afternoon is dedicated to visiting the panoramic Sangaygang View Point, the ancient Changangkha Monastery, and the Takin Preserve Centre, where you can observe Bhutan's unique national animal. In the evening, you'll visit the impressive Tashichho Dzong, the "Fortress of the Glorious Religion," before returning to your hotel for the night.
Today, you journey back towards Paro, but the drive is a highlight in itself. You'll ascend to the breathtaking Dochula Pass, a mountain pass in the snow-capped Himalayas offering stunning, panoramic views. After this scenic stop, you'll continue to Paro and check into your hotel. Once refreshed, you'll set out to explore the ancient Ta Dzong, a watchtower that now serves as the National Museum, housing a rich collection of Bhutanese artifacts. From there, you'll descend to the magnificent Paro Dzong, also known as Rinphung Dzong, a formidable fortress that stands as a testament to Bhutanese architecture and history. You'll spend the night in the peaceful surroundings of Paro.
Today is the spiritual highlight of your trip: a visit to the iconic Taktsang Lhakhang, or the "Tiger's Nest". This holy temple is Bhutan's most famous landmark, impossibly perched on a sheer cliff face 900 meters above the Paro Valley. The legend says Guru Rimpoche flew to this site on the back of a tigress and meditated in the cave for three years, months, and days to subdue evil spirits. This sacred site has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. You will drive to the base and embark on the unforgettable hike to this miraculous monastery, immersing yourself in the profound spirituality and breathtaking views of the valley below before returning to your hotel in Paro for the evening.
On your final morning, enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the hotel. After checking out, you’ll be transferred to Paro Airport for your onward flight, carrying with you the sweet memories and spiritual serenity of the Dragon Kingdom.
